Left Williams and Route 66 and drove through some beautiful mountains but watch out! route 17 was not the best. It got better as we drove close to Interstate 10 and... we saw our first cactus/ cacti/ cactuses. Cool! The hills were covered with them.
Here we are driving by our first cactus / cacti?? Is that what to say when there are so many?Today, drove to Tucson visitor center looking for the city old town center... we never found the Old Town but we found the tourist center where a festival of food was taking place. Tim and Lou had tacos, Mary and I had fried dough (suppose to be the food to have here- sorry but a bit disappointing). However the tacos were good. Looks like old houses are spread around the city but does not seem to be an old center.
The Old Court House of Tucson where John Dillinger, the notorious bank robber of the 1930's was arrested in Tucson and accused of robbing 24 banks and 4 police stations. He escaped twice before that. He was taken to Chicago and got in more trouble." His end came when he was trapped by the FBI in Indiana. He attempted to escape but got shot to death."
So we decided to drive to San Xavier Mission. Well worth it.
