Curious about what we saw and who we met on our way back?
We are now back in NH. Took a week 1/2 to drive back home.
Visiting new regions is for me the highlight of our trip south. So after discovering the center of Florida,we started our trip north in Savannah GA where we enjoyed watching the huge barges that travel the world to arrive at their destination: Savannah harbor. Walked many miles through the restored old quarters of this well maintained city. Found shades in the multitude of parks/squares all over the old section. Had a basket of crawfish in cajun spices to start a lunch over looking the river. Our campground was located 20mn from the city center. Very practical. (more photos will follow)
After Savannah, found ourselves in Myrtle Beach for our second stop after taking backroads where we met a very friendly church minister with whom we talked politics! Really! Just like that. He explained why he was going to vote Trump....was worth the long detour in the country side to listen him talk about the up and down of his village in his typical South Carolina accent. (not the only one with an accent during this trip).
Oceanlake RV campground was bigger than we could have imagined. Over 800 RV sites plus a multitude of tightly built houses of all sizes which brought the total of dwellings to over 2000. Incroyable! Our new neighbors offered us a ride on their golf cart to investigate our new "pied a terre". Found out all about how this community came into existence. For our last evening 5 sites from the beautiful beach, we were invited to join the above mentioned couple, around their campfire. Very nice of them.
Took to the road again and drove, on a cold day, all the way to Virginia. Set up camp in a state park located on a former plantation with a working farm. Quite interesting. For two days were able to cross the James River on a free ferry to visit Jamestown and Williamsburg. Plenty of history there; plus we were lucky enough to arrive on the day when, once a year, the museum organizes a reenactment of the armies from the Roman wars to Vietnam. Took many pictures which will soon be on this post. So stay tune for more on our voyage SouthEast to Northeast. More to come.
(a suivre)....
