Our group is complete

 

Nous voila reunis a Tucumcari Nouveau Mexique. 

Mais avant ca, un petit probleme de pneu a changer. Rien de grave! et notre entree au Nouveau Mexique. 

On (Tim) s'est apercu qu'un pneu etait use, pour une raison encore pas finalisee. On a trouve un garage qui nous a pris tout de suite et le changement a ete fait rapidement et sans probleme. 

We (Tim) noticed an unusual wear on one of the tires of the 5th wheel. After a few phone calls we found a garage that was able to make a quick and efficient swap of tire. Back on the road. 

Ca c'est l'arrivee au Nouveau Mexique.

Here we arrive in New Mexico.

Ce cheval ARABIAN est arrive en fin d'apres-midi. Le camping a des "stalles" portables a la disposition des proprietaires de chevaux. Les chevaux peuvent y passer la nuit avant de reprendre la route le lendemain. La jeune femme venait d'acheter ce cheval par internet a un eleveur repute. Elle etait trop "excitee" et nous a explique tout ca en attendant son arrivee. C'etait sympa. Elle et son amie sont proprietaires de chevaux. Elles habitent a Colorado Spring, a 5h de route de Tucumcari ou nous avons passe la nuit. Le cheval arrivait du sud, de Ocala (1h au nord de notre camping en FL).  C'etait super de participer a leur anticipation.  

This beautiful Arabian horse arrived in our campground just after our own arrival. The place has special  portable stalls allowing horse owners to let their animal spend the night while traveling. The young lady bought this 2 years old on line from a very reputable breeder and was so excited waiting for its arrival. We talked to her for quite a while. They live in Colorado Springs and the horse arrived from Ocala FL (an hour north where we spend the winter in FL. It was the highlight of the night besides the arrival of our 3rd couple who joined our group a bit earlier. We were excited as well😂

"On The Road" on Route 66

 Apres Jay OK, la route devient la fameuse route historique 66. Voir le camping situe exactement sur cette ancienne route. 

After Jay, we hit the famous Route 66.   Even camped right next to it. 

La Route 66 est tres differente des routes francaises. On ne peut pas comparer. Le style de vie des 2 pays est different. Celui des USA se rapproche enormement du mode de vie rustique des premiers pioniers des films americains. Ici au centre des US: grands horizons, ranchs et elevage de boeufs sur d'enormes distances sur des surfaces de collines a l'est de OK et plates dans l'ouest, le Texas. Notre montee sur le plateau d'Albuquerque nous mene sur une autoroute droit devant nous pendant des km.

   Route 66 is very different from the roads we find in France while traveling in the country. We can't compare. It's a completely different life style but very much the same as in the Western movies of my youth. Here in the middle of the US: big horizons, beef cattle and ranches you can see far away from the highway; flat spaces in Texas and west of OK;  slow slope going up to Albuquerque; lots of miles before the scenery changes.

Le vieux et le neuf: les puits de petrol et les ruines de vieilles industries de la Route 66 font contrastes avec la nouvelle industrie eolienne du nord et ouest du Texas. Cet etat a le plus grand nombre d'eoliennes aux US: plus de 11000. Les fermiers et ranchers sont contents. Ils louent leurs terres tout en continuant leur agriculture ou elevage. Le reste de l'etat ne peut profiter de cette electricite a cause de leur infrastructure qui n'est pas capable d'incorporer cette nouvelle source d'energie. 

The old with the new: oil field and remnants of industry on old route 66 next to the contrast of the new industry: windmill farms. Texas has the most windmills over 11 000. Farmers like it. They get to farm and rent their land.  The north and west of the state get plenty of energy but much to be done to share the electricity with the rest of the state because of old infrastructure that needs millions to be updated.  We drove through forests of windmills. (my pictures could not take them all in)

Backcountry visit OK

 Sitting in the truck, working on the blog in a campground in New Mexico with horses next to us who are also traveling and camping along the way. (see next post)

Past days: camping at Pine Island in Jay OK after many turns, small roads and going nowhere feelings. Not so amazing campground but worth the great view from our 5th wheel overlooking the Grand Lake. 

Ces derniers jours: camping de Pine Island à Jay dans le Oklahoma avec mauvaises petites routes qui zigzaguent dans la campagne. On se demandait où on allait atterir. Le camping n'etait pas chouette mais la vue de notre caravane etait superbe surplombant le Grand Lake.

Daily traveling routine: set up camp and get ready for the following day. This time there is a Pioneer Village 30mn away in Grove. So many artifacts collected by the Har-Ber couple (Harry- Bernie) in the 1930s. Bought or where given to them, small original buildings to show case the first American way of life.  Pictures talk.

Notre routine quotidienne: installation pour la nuit et decider du trajet du lendemain. Aujourd'hui nous avons une journee pour visiter un village Pionier a 30mn de notre campement à Grove. Construit dans les annees 1930 par un couple Harry et Bernie, d'ou le nom du musee: Har-Ber. Ils ont accumules des artefacts (?) des premiers pioniers et ont cree un petit village qui nous fait revivre ou tout au moins mieux comprendre leur facon de vivre.

New Territory/ Gateway to the West

Mary and Lou arrived Thursday, September 22. Dinner with kids at the campground. Then discovery of Rose Island resort which is part of our SP or it should be said discovering of the remnants of its past glory and fun with its archway entrance, filled in pool, dance hall we had to imagine- cottages spaces along the Ohio River. This resort invited families for a fun day of picnic, dancing, swimming and rides. Nature took it all back. To reach the island, a steep hill, a refurbished suspended bridge. Easy going down, bit harder walking up (not much easier walking backward (see pictures).

Then in the morning got on the road ready to investigate New Territories we have mapped out during the year. Passed Central Time Zone; passed Larry Bird's birthplace, French Lick; past Seneca Reservation.

Drove through St Louis with its Arch symbol of Gateway to the West designed and built to Jefferson's vision: living memorial to his vision of greater opportunities for "men" of all races and creeds.

This section of our trip took us through hilly grounds, corn fields, some vineyards, flat land and big wooded areas.

Family time

  Depart de l'etat de l'Ohio; Ci-dessus lever du soleil au-dessus le petit etang du camping. Ensuite, on a rencontre des Amish dans la campagne avant de se lancer sur l'autoroute 71.

                                                                        Weekend in Kentucky

Ce weekend avant notre depart prevu pour vendredi prochain est dedie a la famille. Nous nous installons dans un camping qui offre beaucoup d'espace et de nature a ses campeurs. Charlestown State Park. Aussitot arrive, nous nous installons a notre site. Les enfants arrivent. Tout le monde aide a monter la tente. Ensuite hamburgers, legumes, salade et pour finir des marshmallows/chocolat/ biscuit. Le marshmallow est fondu au-dessus des flames du feu de bois et place sur du chocolat qui fond sur le biscuit en sandwich. Miam miam! Le jour suivant: balade dans les bois, balade en velo, jeux .... le parfait weekend. Les enfants aident a faire le feu de bois pour faire le cafe. Ensuite 2 demi journees de BMX. Photos ci-dessous.

Family time, this weekend, before our departure westward. We arrive north of Louisville in Charlestown SP.  Tons of space and nature for all campers to enjoy. As soon as we arrive we set up camp then the kids drive in. Every one helps to put up the tent.  Hamburgers, salad and veggies with s'mores for dessert on wood fire. Perfect camping weekend. Next day, the kids prepare a fire for dad's coffee; then nature walk in the woods. Play some games. In the afternoon it is time for BMX race day 1 and day 2.                                   pictures below:

week 1 continues

 After Arrowhead in NY, it was Southwoods still in NY; a beautiful well maintained campground where a couple from Paradise Oaks RV resort spend their summer. Suzanne is in charged of the floral displays. They are absolutely beautiful. 

Apres Arrowhead dans l'etat de NY, nous sommes restes a Southwoods, un tres beau camping ou un couple qui campe avec nous en FL maintient les fleurs. Suzanne cree de beaux parterres.

Left this morning to arrive in Ohio along the lake Erie (we could see from above on the highway) via Pennsylvania. Another well groomed campground where we took a walk around the fish pond on the property (see picture below) then quiet time with a cup of tea and a book while Tim is meeting our neighbors for the night.  Then decided to work on the blog as it is going to be a crazy weekend with the BMX racers. Looking forward to have them camping on our site for a few days. 

Partis ce matin pour arriver en Ohio en passant par le lac Erie (on pouvait le voir de l'autoroute) en passant par une toute petite section de la Pennsylvanie. Sommes arrives dans un autre camping bien maintenu ou on peut pecher dans un etang sur la propriete. Une fois arrivee nous en avons fait le tour et ensuite me suis installee sur une chaise pour lire et prendre une tasse de the.

Reponses: Marrons car tous les chataigniers ont disparu a cause d'un virus. Ils ne sont pas completement detruits car leurs racines ont survecu. Par contre les arbres ne peuvent plus se developper. Marron: symbol de l'Ohio. Faites des recherches sur l'internet, tres interessant a lire. J'ai eu cette discussion avec mon amie Mary (qui nous rejoint la semaine prochaine). Elle et Lou, son mari, sont de l'Ohio

Answers: buckeyes are symbol of Ohio (correct Mary? we had a conversation with Mary where I learned a lot about this subject last year). Chestnut disappeared because of a blight where only roots survive and the tree can start but not develop. Genetic engineering is trying to bring them back. Their wood is found in century old barns, ceiling beams and wide floor planks. (go on Sierra site to learn more)
