Back to Savannah this year. We stayed there last year on our
way back but this time we chose a State Park which is 100 times better than the
camp adjacent to highway and train tracks last spring.
The SP this year is located on an island 1/2h drive from the
city. (Skidaway SP) Our site is facing
the woods so that means no neighbor on 180 degres. Perfect. We ride bikes along
the marshes and take walks. Privacy allows us to work out outside.
In this region, we return for a day in Savannah cold and
windy but perfect to have lunch on the boardwalk. Here again able to taste food
from the south. Walking through the streets you cross many parks, admire many
old houses and sit on a bench in the sun across a nice fountain.
Tybee Island is on our list of must do this year. Very quiet
summer resort at this time of the year, beautiful beach but we can imagine the
crowd from May to November. Reminds us of Hampton Beach NH. Our picnic on its
beach is followed by a tour of Fort Pulaski. (Another well restored civil war
monument). It was stragically built by
the Federal government but used by the south to try to defend its side at the
beginning of the American civil war. However the south lost its battle there
and the fort that took 12 years to build lost its defensive purpose in a 30
hours battle.
That concludes our visit in Georgia.
See you in FL in a couple days
