Huntington Beach SP, SC

Brookgreen garden displays American Internationally renowned sculptures on route 17 across from Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet. One of my favorite campgrounds. We did not take time to visit this park this time. Spent hours  walking the  huge beach and riding our bikes; visited the nature center as well.  4 nice days even if we had to move sites 3 times. Oh well. Lots of practice hooking and unhooking the 5th wheel. 

I don't remember seeing so many alligators .

Can't stop in this area without dining on local steamed oysters. A bit different as we usual get since they come as a big block.

Fort McAlister SP GA

 First stop was Fort McAlister State Park. Lovely, clean and quiet.  

  We were able to ride our bikes to go and visit the Fort with its museum. As usual very instructive. View some pictures below.

Civil War between North and South. Learned a lot between the capacity of absorbing the incoming canon balls by the earthwork bunkers compare to bricks and mortar Forts.

canon balls were heated in this below underground furnace. (Must have been hot, rolling the fireballs in the back of the furnace to the canon set on the shore)

Bombproof sleeping quarters of these poor devils from the Confederate army who defended with success 7 times against the Union ironclads who were on their way to  Savannah. The Fort did not fall until 1864.

Short distance to the marshes, late afternoon crabbing and fishing
